Why Secure Folder may suit you.
Secure Folder is built on Samsung Knox and protects much more than a gallery. It can isolate apps, contacts, calendars, documents, notes, and media. On a compatible Galaxy phone, it benefits from platform integration and supported hardware security.
Samsung also documents icon hiding and cloud backup/restore through a Samsung account. For someone already committed to Galaxy devices, this can be more convenient than managing a separate backup file.
How Lockpic is different.
Lockpic focuses on photos and videos rather than creating a second app environment. It requires no manufacturer account and exports a self-contained encrypted backup that can be stored with a provider or medium the user chooses.
Its pattern-derived model means separate patterns can address separate vaults without showing a cross-vault picker. That is a different privacy goal from Samsung's visible secure container.
How to choose
You use a supported Samsung device, want to isolate whole apps or documents, and value Knox and Samsung ecosystem integration.
You want a media-specific vault across Android manufacturers, no identity account, a separate pattern model, and a portable encrypted backup.
Secure Folder questions
Can I move Secure Folder to a new phone?
Samsung documents transfers to a new Galaxy device using Smart Switch. Its current support page says new Secure Folder backups are no longer supported, although you can restore older backups. Check the instructions for your devices before wiping the old phone. Samsung's transfer and backup guidance.
What if my next phone is not a Samsung?
Secure Folder is for supported Galaxy devices. Lockpic supports compatible Android 13 and later phones across manufacturers. A Lockpic backup restores into Lockpic; it does not import a Samsung Secure Folder backup. Moving between the apps requires exporting your media and importing it into the destination app. Exported files need separate protection.
